CCTV Images Released After Attempted Armed Robbery
Police investigating an attempted armed robbery in Wythall, North Worcestershire, have released CCTV images of the offender.
It happened at Mills Newsagents in Drakes Cross, on Wednesday 1 June at about 8.30pm.
The offender waited until a customer had left and then went inside, produced a short kitchen-type knife and demanded money but left empty handed.
The offender is white, slim, and quite tall – possibly around 6ft, and had his head covered by a scarf or a hood. He was wearing a very distinctive coat which is described as being just above mid-thigh length. The main colour was green although the sleeves were brown. The front of the coat had two pockets that appear to be about waist height. The offender was also wearing brown coloured shoes.
When he left the shop he turned left out of Drakes Cross Parade on to the A435 Alcester Road.
DC Ruth Hemingway of West Mercia Police said: “Whilst the offender did not manage to get away with anything on this occasion, it was a terrifying ordeal for the shop assistant, a teenage girl who was alone behind the till, and it is imperative that we identify him.
The offender was wearing a very distinctive coat, which I feel sure that someone will recognise, and I am appealing for anyone who thinks they know who it may be to contact me at Bromsgrove CID on 0300 333 3000 quoting incident 273-n-010611 or ring Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.”
